L.T. Smith arrived at Western and began an industrial arts program in 1920 called Manual Training as part of the College of Education. The first students with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts graduated in 1930. The first woman in Kentucky to graduate with an Industrial Arts degree was Agnita Ruff in 1965.
