Admin / Biog History Owensboro, Kentucky native, W.J. "Uncle Billy" Craig was hired to teach chemistry and physics at Western in 1908. During the 1920s he created the Alumni Association and served as its secretary. He was also the director of the placement bureau. Uncle Billy served Western for forty-five years and retired in 1953. Upon his retirement he was presented with a volume of appreciation letters solicited from faculty, staff, students and alumni.
