Admin / Biog History Margie Helm (1894-1991) was born in Auburn Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Nellie (Blakely) Helm. She attended Randolph Macon Woman's College, Pratt Institute and University of Chicago earning an MLS in 1933. She taught in high schools briefly and served as a library assistant in the New York Public Library for a year before taking a position at Western Kentucky in 1920. Helm was library director 1923 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1965. The university library was named in her honor in 1964.
