Description Chintz quilt consisting of solid strips of chintz alternating with hand-pieced rows of four patch blocks that were set on point. An eight inch-wide border strip in a blue and cream floral pattern frames the sides of the quilt. The four patch rows are approximately 11 inches wide while the solid strips are about 5 inches wide. The fabrics in the quilt consist of stripes, plaids, and floral, paisley and leaf prints. They also include several figurative prints, including one chinoiserie motif print. The primary colors are shades of pink, blue, brown and cream. The textile is hand quilted in a clamshell pattern at an average of 5 to 6 stitches per inch. The muslin backing is composed of at least four separate pieces of muslin sewn together.
