Old Norton & Long Bank Building |
Description |
Color postcard titled, "The Old NORTON & LONG Bank Building (now Logan County Library) Russellville, Kentucky." The image shows the building's red brick exterior, which is surrounded by a line of tall trees and midcentury cars. The caption on the back reads: "At Noon, March 20, 1868, the JAMES gang staged their first bank robbery here. Nothing seems able to correct the legend of Jesse James — robbing the rich to help the poor. The public conception of the outlaw is perhaps best summed up in the inscription on his Missouri grave stone, "Jesse James — Died April 3, 1882, Aged 34 years, 6 months, 28 days. Murdered by a traitor and a coward whose name is not worthy to appear here." 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" |
