Franklin St., Lambertville, NJ 08530 ________________________________________ Dorothy Grider (January 19, 1915 - February 18, 2012) Dorothy Grider, 97, died Saturday. Born in Bowling Green, KY., Ms. Grider had lived in New Hope since 1950. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky State College and studied art in New York City and at the Grande Chaumiere Art Studio in Paris France. A freelance artist she was best known as an illustrator of eighty children's books, five of which she also wrote. The first book she was credited with illustrating was "The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings". She also painted many portraits and landscapes. Daughter of the late Rufus and Patricia Fenwick Grider, and sister of the late Rufus DuBose Grider, Jr. and aunt of the late Barbara Grider, she is survived by one sister Charlotte Egan of Sellersburg, IN, two nephews Michael Egan, Gregg Egan both of Sellersburg, IN., one niece Carolyn Grider Little of Choctaw, OK. and two first cousins Lois Nevin of Elk Rapids, MI and John Grider of Bowling Green, KY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the College Heights Foundation, Dorothy Grider Exhibit Fund, at the Kentucky Museum, 1906 College Heights Blvd., Bowling Green, KY., 42101. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Fariview Cemetery in Bowling Green, KY. |
