Description |
Circa 1956 midnight blue cocktail dress with crinoline. .a - The bodice of this taffeta dress has a v-shaped decollete neckline, cap sleeves, and a wide waistband with ruching that is tucked at the center front creating crossover effect. The knee-length skirt has a center inverted pleat flanked by knife pleats that extend around the rest of the waist. The dress has a back zipper closure. .b - The matching dark blue tulle crinoline was made with two tiers of ruffles that help provide fullness. The waistline of the crinoline is finished with elastic around the inside, and is open on each end, but is secured using ties on both sides. Note: Sarah (Pearce) Thompson, likely wore this dress at some of the cocktail parties and receptions she attended with her husband, Kelly Thompson (1909-1993), while he served as President of Western Kentucky State College, later Western Kentucky University, from 1955 to 1969. |
